Counterfeit medications

Counterfeit, or fake medications increasingly publicised on the internet are illegal and potentially very harmful to your health. They often contain reduced amounts of the active ingredients, the wrong ingredients entirely or even harmful substances. To avoid counterfeit medicines, ensure that you:

  • Get your prescription from a registered pharmacist
  • Collect your prescription from a pharmacy or reputable outlet
  • Look for the internet pharmacy logo when obtaining medicines online

If you are worried that your medication may be counterfeit, please contact MSD at medicalinformationuk@merck.com.

Alternatively you can also contact the MHRA 24 hour counterfeit hotline on 020 3080 6701 or email counterfeit@mhra.gsi.gov.uk
